Karina has hit the ground running, and has already announced a number of her policy positions. As the next Leader of the Liberal Party and Prime Minister of Canada, Karina would:
- Commit to 2% of GDP for defense spending, including by increasing Canadian Armed Forces salaries and immediately focusing on fixing procurement timelines for equipment,
- Keep GST off of children’s clothing, diapers, strollers and car seats—for good,
- Cut the GST by one point to 4% for one year, saving Canadians hundreds of dollars on everyday expenses,
- Raise the effective corporate tax rate by 2% on profits over $500 million,
- Increase the power of the Competition Bureau to fight anti-competitive behaviours, stop mergers and acquisitions that hurt competition and consumers, and seriously investigate reports of price gouging and over-pricing,
- Change capital gains inclusion to better support start ups and investment,
- Exempt Supply Management from any future trade negotiation,
- Bring back the ZEV and Home Retrofit rebates,
- Pause the increases on the Consumer Carbon Price, and make industrial polluters pay more for their continued pollution,
- Work with the party to re-engage grassroots members and young Liberals across the country.
